The name is a reference to the Chinese calendar the year 2000 being the year of the dragon. The game was released in North America on October 11, 2000, in the United Kingdom on October 25, in the rest of Europe on November 10. It was the last Spyro game to be released for the PlayStation, as well as the last Spyro game developed by Insomniac Games. Spyro 3: Year of the Dragon is the third game in the Spyro series.
